Kao Exhibits at 2008 Integrated Exhibition of the Environment in Celebration of the Hokkaido Toyako Summit

July 15, 2008

Kao took part in the 2008 Integrated Exhibition of the Environment in Celebration of the Hokkaido Toyako Summit, held at the Sapporo Dome from June 19 to 21 as a forerunner to the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit, in July 7 to 9.

The exhibition, based on the theme of "Summer 2008, Hokkaido Opens the Door to the Future," was planned to offer an arena for presenting a diverse range of approaches to environmental issues from Hokkaido to the world. Participants totaled 333 corporations and research institutions actively involved in significant activities concerning the global issue of environmental protection.

The venue featured displays of the latest environment-friendly products as well as introductions to advanced environment-related technology. In addition, forums on the environment featured leading experts concerning key issues, while seminars and workshops were led by corporations, environmental groups, universities and research institutions actively involved in leading-edge environmental protection activities. All in all, the exhibition unfurled a diverse range of events for visitors to explore.

Kao introduced topics and products based on the following themes to encourage further awareness of our industrial activities firmly rooted in our commitment to the environment.

  1. Our basic policy and goals concerning the environment
  2. Implementation and integration of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle)
  3. Kao’s eco-products such as our detergents and other consumer products sold worldwide as well as chemical products applied in various industrial fields

Visitors to the Kao booth provided both stimulating and encouraging comments, such as "I want to use more refill and replacement products as part of the eco-activities I can do at home," "I would like to see the development of more environment-friendly products" and "As an individual, I have no direct connection to Kao chemical products, but I now see that Kao is contributing to environmental protection in many areas." With over 84,000 visitors during the three-day exhibition, a number much higher than expected, the heightened public awareness of the environment was unmistakable.

Kao will continue to contribute to the protection of the earth’s environment by maintaining our proactive development of environment-friendly products, as well as encouraging the consumer to purchase our products by promoting our total approach to the environment.
