Fatty Chemical (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (FCM) is a joint venture company
between Kao Corporation Japan and IOI Oleochemical Industries Berhad. Established in 1988, FCM is the first company in Malaysia to produce fatty alcohols using palm kernel oil. Commercial production began in 1990, and a new facility was opened in 2002 to produce high-quality fatty alcohol using fatty acid. In 2018, FCM completed the IO (Internal Olefin) plant. FCM prides itself on using state-of-the-art technology and equipment, backed by Kao's innovation and technical expertise. The company produces fatty alcohols and refined glycerin, exporting most of its products for use in consumer and industrial products. The manufacturing operations are highly computerized, ensuring efficiency and safety.
On the 29th February 1988, Kao Corporation Japan and Palmco Holdings signed an agreement of joint venture business. The joint ventured company was established as Fatty Chemical (Malaysia) Sendirian Berhad whereby Kao Corporation had 70% stake and Palmco Holdings Berhad held 30% stake in this company. FCM factory is located in Perai which is in the mainland, Seberang Perai or Province Wellesley. It occupied a land area of about 29 acres of Prai Industrial Complex. FCM was set up in Perai due to its good port facilities and an abundance of palm trees, ensuring a good supply of palm kernel oil.
Kao’s KALCOL product series consists of a variety of alkyl compositions, some of which are solid at normal temperature in granulated form for easy handling. The high quality of each KALCOL product results in the production of surfactants with superior characteristics. These advantages expand utilization of KALCOL in both direct and use as derivatives.
