The aging of social infrastructure has become a serious problem, and it was reported that by 2033, approximately 60% of roads will be more than 50 years old. Furthermore, while periodic pavement inspections and the establishment of road maintenance methods is required in line with revisions to the Road Traffic Act, etc., the construction industry is faced with another serious problem stemming from a shortage of civil engineers who play a key role in the maintenance of our social infrastructure.
In recent years, momentum was building behind movements to realize a sustainable society that looks ahead to the future, such as the conservation of marine resources by reducing plastic waste and the development of safe, secure, and resilient social infrastructure.
Using waste PET (discarded Polyethylene Terephthalate), Kao developed NEWTLAC Series, a high durability pavement modifier, and established a technology to promote positive recycling. NEWTLAC Series is a unique asphalt modifier developed by Kao that combines pavement durability enhancement with waste plastic recycling.
