The degradation of coastal ecosystems caused by habitat loss, shoreline erosion, and the intensifying effects of climate change has made mangrove restoration an increasingly urgent environmental priority. Mangroves serve a critical ecological function, they act as natural barriers against storm surges, absorb significant amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and provide vital
breeding grounds for a wide range of marine species. As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, PT. Kao Indonesia Chemicals (KIC) has been actively engaged in mangrove rehabilitation along the coast of Cilamaya,Karawang Regency, West Java.
In 2019, KIC employees planted 1,000 mangrove trees along the Cilamaya-Karawang coastline under the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. The initiative represented a concrete effort to address the deterioration of the local coastal environment while reinforcing KIC's role as a responsible corporate citizen within the community where it operates.

A site observation conducted in 2025 confirmed that the mangroves planted six years earlier have grown into healthy, well-established trees. This encouraging outcome demonstrates that sustained and properly managed reforestation efforts can deliver lasting, meaningful results for coastal ecosystems.

Building on this achievement, KIC carried out a second mangrove planting activity on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Pasir Putih Beach on the northern coast of Cilamaya, Karawang Regency. During this event, KIC employees planted an additional 2,000 mangrove seedlings, bringing the cumulative total to 3,000 mangrove trees planted in the Cilamaya-Karawang area since the program's started in 2019.

This activity was carried out by KIC employees, who dedicated their time and energy to expanding the mangrove green belt along the Karawang coastline. Their hands-on participation reflects a deeply held sense of environmental responsibility within the organization and KIC's commitment to making a measurable positive impact on the surrounding community and its naturalenvironment.
Through this initiative, KIC demonstrates that environmental conservation is not separate from its business identity, it is an integral part of it. The thriving condition of the mangroves planted in 2019 serves as tangible proof that well-executed restoration programs deliver real, enduring benefits for both the ecosystem and the local community. By continuing to invest in efforts like these, KIC aims to contribute meaningfully to the fight against climate change and the preservation of Indonesia's invaluable coastal resources.
KIC remains committed to pursuing environmental conservation as a core element of its corporate values. Guided by the Kao Group's principle of "Sustainability as the only path" and its vision of a future in which people and nature coexist in harmony, KIC will continue to protect and nurture the natural environment in the areas where it operates, one mangrove at a time.
