Features of the DANOX RAP Series

Effective even for deteriorated reclaimed asphalt that has undergone repeated recycling, contributing to improved durability of recycled asphalt pavement.Kao's DANOX RAP Series is a new rejuvenator that supports longer pavement life and more advanced resource circulation.

DANOX RAP Series is Kao's rejuvenator that promotes the rejuvenation of deteriorated asphalt properties. Asphalt becomes hard and brittle after long-term exposure to ultraviolet rays, heat, and other factors. DANOX RAP Series acts in two ways: it replenishes components lost through long-term service and disperses components that have increased or aggregated. In this way, it promotes the rejuvenation of deteriorated asphalt properties and improves the durability of recycled asphalt pavement, contributing to longer pavement life and effective resource use.

Benefits of Introduction

When asphalt pavement is recycled repeatedly, its properties become difficult to restore even when  conventional rejuvenator are added. However, adding the DANOX RAP Series rejuvenates the condition of asphalt even after repeated recycling, enabling it to be used as pavement material.

The pavement containing the additive becomes stronger.

Normally, recycled asphalt pavement using aged reclaimed asphalt pavement tends to show reduced durability. However, the addition of the DANOX RAP series improves water resistance and makes cracking less likely to occur.

Maintains good performance after repeated recycling
Effective even for aged pavement subjected to repeated recycling

Normally, repeated recycling of asphalt pavement makes it increasingly difficult to rejuvenate asphalt properties, even when conventional rejuvenators are used. However, with the addition of DANOX RAP series, the asphalt properties can be rejuvenated even after repeated recycling, allowing the pavement to continue being used as a paving material.

Uses plant-derived raw materials

While many conventional rejuvenators are manufactured from petrochemical raw materials, DANOX RAP series uses plant-derived raw materials as its main ingredients, enabling a reduction of CO₂ emissions through its use.

Asphalt properties deteriorate through repeated recycling

Solution

Improves suitability for repeated recycling

DANOX RAP series works multifacetedly on deteriorated asphalt and rejuvenates asphalt properties with a small amount of addition. It also promotes the rejuvenation of asphalt properties even in pavement materials that have undergone repeated recycling. As a result, it supports the recycling of repeatedly reclaimed pavement materials and contributes to the advancement of resource circulation.

Recycled pavement faces challenges in long-term durability compared with pavement mainly composed of new materials

Solution

Improved water resistance and crack resistance

Kao's R&D has confirmed that recycled asphalt pavement with DANOX RAP Series exhibits better water resistance and reduced cracking compared with conventional rejuvenators. DANOX is considered to improve pavement durability by enhancing the adhesion between asphalt and aggregate, thereby suppressing water penetration.
